I have a few to start.
Taiko no Tatsujin (Taiko Master).
Anyone who has ever been to Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and a few other asian countries have probably heard about this game.
The closest representation of this is like Splatoon 2's Rhythm Game, except it's one row and the colors are crowded together and instead of a controller (though optional) you have a giant taiko drum to bang on.
I discovered this game in June of 2009 on a trip to Taiwan in an arcade and pretty much fell in love with the series. I still play this game on 3ds and emulators.
Not too many people know about this game since it was only localized in NA once in 2004 for the ps2, and the rest of the series stayed in Asia.
Tetris Attack/Puzzle League/Panel De Pon
If you ever had a SNES as a kid (or tried playing in Animal Crossing: New Leaf with the 3ds item), you've probably played this game or tried it out in stores.
I've had this game since before I was even born and my brother and I grew up to be prodigies at this niche puzzle game (seriously, rounds last up to 10 minutes with each other with chains breaking the limit).
Not too many people know or play this since it's a game that you either like because you're good at it or not because you can't make flashy chains.
Nezumiman (Mouse Man)
A freeware game for the PC. It's Mega Man! Except it's a mouse with original artwork and music. It's both adorable and funny. Made by a Japanese user (with English spelling).
Not to many people know about this because it's either a game you have to run into to find out about it or someone else has to tell you about it. So I'm telling you now that you should play it because it's free.
Pole's Big Adventure
I found out about this game from AGDQ. It's a comedic platformer parody based off of super mario made by...Sega. It's a Japan only Wiiware game, but you can find a rom for it online with a little digging. It's like 97% in Japanese, but the comedy and game play is straightforward and easy to understand without it.
